Child-Friendly Justice in Europe – Participation and Restorative Justice


 

Under the aegis of the Georgian Presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe a High-Level Roundtable: “Child-Friendly justice in Europe – Participation and Restorative Justice“ took place online on 12 May 2020.

High-Level Roundtable: “Child-Friendly justice in Europe – Participation and Restorative Justice“, organised by the Ministry of Justice of Georgia, the Directorate General Human Rights and Rule of Law (DG I) and the Directorate General of Democracy (DG II)  in the framework of the Georgian Presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe was held in an online format on 12 May 2020.

The objective of the Roundtable was to promote Council of Europe standards on child-friendly justice systems enshrined in different strategic documents of the organization. It also aimed to provide a platform for exchange of knowledge, practice and challenges in the field.

The opening session of the “online event” included contributions from the Vice Prime Minister and the Minister of Justice of Georgia, Ms Thea TSULUKIANI and the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Ms Marija PEJČINOVIĆ BURIĆ.

“Online event” consisted of several thematic sessions, including children in the case-law of the European Court of Human Rights, upholding the rights of the child in justice systems, children and justice, finding the right response for upholding the rights of the children in conflict with law: towards restorative justice in Europe.

Following the “online event” and taking into account the contributions made by the speakers, the Georgian Presidency will elaborate its conclusions which will be made available by 15 May 2020.
